Get closer to the Sacred Heart!

Dear Leaders,

The Eurojam is a unique event in your life; it is also a deep spiritual event. As for the first disciples who came and saw Jesus, your life and the one of the young people you are in charge of may be transformed by this meeting moment. You are not going to transform your life by yourselves, all alone : a life is transfigured when it meets Christ and lets itself be visited by Him!

Zacchaeus let Christ invite Himself in his house and his life has been transformed. Matthew let himself be looked at and be touched by Jesus’ word and his life has been transformed. Mary Magdalene let the kindness of Christ touch her heart of sinner and her life has been transformed…

During the Eurojam, you will also have the opportunity to meet Christ and to allow your young people to meet Him. In particular, a day of pilgrimage will be proposed to all participants. We’ll walk towards Lisieux, guided by saint Therese and by Robert Schuman. As you know, when we follow saints, they always lead us to Jesus!

In the basilica of Lisieux, with thousands of guides and scouts, you will be proposed to consecrate your life to the Sacred Heart. It is a very simple, trustful and bold step that your religious advisers may help you to prepare. The point is to answer to Love by  love. The consecration to the Sacred Heart is an answer, an impetus towards the Heart of Jesus, that has loved us first and that opened for us on the Cross. It is a wish to live from the life and mercy that spring out of it, because peace and joy come out of this Heart: indeed, there is neither peace nor authentic joy without forgiveness.

Leader, you are in charge of the souls of your young people. How can you prepare them to this personal and intense spiritual moment? First of all by preparing yourself to it! You will not open the treasures of the Heart of Jesus to your young people if your own heart does not open to drink from this source. You will not make them grow in holiness if you do not grow yourself in holiness. And the source of holiness, it is the Heart of Jesus!

While waiting for the Eurojam, read with your young people the Gospel passages in which poor let themselves be met by Jesus. Lift often your eyes towards the Cross to let grow in you the desire to enter into the secrets of the open heart of Christ! Don’t put limits to your desires: your young people watch you and follow you. Towards which summits do you want to guide them? “When I shall be lifted up, I’ll draw everyone to me !” says Jesus.

How is the camp organized

The camp will be organized in the same way as the Eurojam:

- 2 camps: male and female

- each camp: 6 sub-camps (same as the EJ’s names) – international

- each sub-camp: some bivouacs (same as the EJs’ number) – some international and some national

- each bivouac: Unit Leaders of this bivouac (same as the EJ’s number) – national

As there will be no units at the ULC but only leaders, these leaders are grouped in “virtual units”, so:

  • The Bivouac Leader (the same bivouac leader as for the EJ) is like a Unit Leader and will coordinate the “real” Unit Leaders like patrol members (for cooking and sleep too).
  • The Sub-Camp Leader (the same sub-camp leader as for the EJ) is like a EJ Bivouac Leader; he will manage the patrols like Units.

Activities and Eurojam Trailer

Please, do expect within few days, another newsletter concerning games and activities of your unit during Eurojam. At this time we will also present you the first breathtaking Eurojam trailer.

Your unit’s equipment

Carriages

The units are encouraged to bring carriages to transport wood, water and food. Indeed, the camp site is very big: the patrol will have to cross some hundreds of meters:  a carriage will make easier the transport of these important elements for a good scout camp.

Stoves

To prevent a potential drought, each patrol will have a camp stove (with fire inside). The stove will be used only if needed. Here is the model for the Eurojam 2014 :

The units are encouraged to bring carriages to transport wood, water and food. Indeed, the camp site is very big: the patrol will have to cross some hundreds of meters:  a carriage will make easier the transport of these important elements for a good scout camp.

During the ULC, each sub-camp will use one camp stove in order to become familiarized with its functioning.

You can order a camp stove to the sub-commission “Fire & Stoves” for 16 €. It will be delivered directly in the camp site. It can be dismantled with only the hands: you don’t need any tools. It’s made with flat slabs: it doesn’t take lots of place!

You will be able to place the order in quipo system. We will let you know when this will be possible.
